Manuscriptic

Manuscriptic is a writing app for authors. Notes and your manuscript live side by side in a binder. Rich text lets you control headings, fonts, and style. The manuscript can be compiled into a single document for reading, or for submitting for publication.

Download the latest Windows and Mac builds.

Binder

The binder is the book. It has three roots.

The binder, with a chapter open in the manuscript.

Front and back matter

These are the pages around the story. They are not chapters. Compile keeps the type you set in the editor, unless Formatting says otherwise.

The title page open under Front Matter, with tokens in the text.

Snapshots

A snapshot is a copy of the book, stored inside the book file.

The snapshot shelf open under the scene, with one snapshot selected.

Compiles

A compile is a named setup for one kind of output. Open it from File → Book Settings.

Book settings, with the Manuscript compile selected above the contents list.

Author

The name and address filled into tokens such as {$author}.

The Author page, using the author from Settings.

Contents

Ticked rows are compiled. Notes are not in this list.

Structure

The binder does not call a folder a chapter. Structure does, by how deep the folder sits.

Structure, with Folder Level 1 set to be included.

Formatting

The ticks decide whether compile keeps the type from the editor. A word's font and a paragraph's alignment follow the same rule.

Formatting, with the manuscript tick off and the front and back matter ticks on.

Dictionary

Words this book spells on purpose. They belong to the book, so every compile uses the same list.

Compile

File → Compile… writes a Word or PDF file. The book itself is left as it is.
